The City of Pine Bluff, Ark. starts project to improve efficiency with new technology
Troy, Michigan - Tuesday, March 16, 2010
The City of Pine Bluff, Ark. is working with New World Systems, the industry leader in public sector software, to streamline operations and improve financial controls. This month, the City began implementation of New World Systems’ integrated Logos.NET® Public Administration suite of applications on the Microsoft.NET™ platform. The new solution will replace an older system that is no longer meeting the City’s growing needs and will provide integration between departments, bringing all financial information together to improve intelligence for City-wide planning and decision making.
“New World’s solution is state-of-the-art,” said Mayor Carl Redus. “This completely integrated enterprise software will provide us with more timely information, the functionality to automate processes and improve our daily cash management.”
After conducting a thorough evaluation of local government ERP solutions, the City selected New World’s Logos.NET Financial Management and Community Development software developed in-house using proven Microsoft.NET™ technology, industry-standard Windows® Server and SQL® Server. The technology behind New World’s software was important to City officials. It will guarantee that the completely integrated applications ease system administration, streamline business processes to save money and provide a solid foundation to ensure the software will evolve to meet the City’s future needs.
“As we spoke to software providers during our vendor evaluation, we learned the industry was moving toward Microsoft.NET-based solutions,” said Finance Director Steven Miller. “Based on the added functionality, ease of use and integration to everyday Microsoft applications, the benefits of this technology are very clear. However, we found that other vendors moving in that direction were still several years away from a complete .NET-based solution. It is the technology of the future and New World Systems is already there.”
New World’s software will give City departments more access to financial records and information, while improving internal controls and reducing redundant data entry. The single database and electronic workflow will ensure all information entered into one application is securely available throughout the system. Municipal employees will have the ability to report real-time financial information to improve budgeting and eventually move to a paperless system for functions such as purchasing.
“By offering everyone more access to information in the system, we will eliminate a lot of paperwork,” said Robert Tucker, Director of Inspections and Zoning Project Manager. “Moving away from hard copies to electronic files and automated workflow will save us time and reduce errors caused by lost files and duplicate data entry.”
According to Tucker, New World’s .NET solutions will also improve inspection and zoning and overall municipal planning through tight integration with GIS maps and the ability for inspectors to access the system from laptops while out in the community.
Once implemented, City officials expect New World’s software will dramatically improve operations, saving valuable time and money for the City of Pine Bluff. These savings will also help the City better serve more than 55,000 residents.
