In 1999 and 2000, the City of Hamilton, Ohio received the national award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) and the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Less than two percent of government entities receive these awards, but with the assistance of New World Systems' software, the City was able to generate clean, easy to read, required government reports.
"New World's Logos Financial Management software helped the City complete a 180-degree turn since we were declared inauditable in 1992 and 1993," said Michael Engel, acting director of finance, Hamilton, OH. "The City's inadequate records at the time failed to produce financial reports accounting for monies spent. New World's software generates reports we can present to our council and the federal government."
Since the implementation of New World's Logos software, the City has seen productivity increase. Hamilton has done a wonderful job in utilizing New World's software to automate what used to be paper-driven processes, such as increasing the speed of how purchase orders move through the system and creating centralized purchasing in a decentralized environment.
"The Logos Requisition Processing application is more advanced than other products," said Controller George Gordon, Hamilton, OH. "The purchasing process is fully automated, from requisition, approval, purchase order creation, and delivery to payment. Each purchase order is automatically tracked within the system, giving management a stronger measure of control."
The City licensed New World's Logos Human Resources/Payroll application to help manage the City's payroll process efficiently. "We generate 750 payroll checks and there are various withholdings within the Hamilton public employee system," said Engel. "The system easily calculates each employee's bargaining unit for payroll, social security, active and non-active Medicare payments for retiree's after 1986, pensions, overtime, holidays, sick time and much more. There are ten unions within the City of Hamilton personnel and ten different contracts, but New World's software allows us to streamline the process."
The fully integrated system automatically posts total gross pay, insurance costs, taxes and all other deductions for the pay period to the general ledger in the Financial Management application, reducing data entry.
New World's fully integrated Logos software suite provides authorized personnel direct access to financial information from any application within the system, streamlining workflow and providing immediate access to data in all areas of New World's software.
